When Adam Galdo lived in Pembrokeshire he was Herbrandston through and through and played regularly as full back for the village football team that developed there through his uncle Modesto, Steve Batty, Reg Owens and others.
But then his work took him away but we bumped into Adam recently when he was back in the county – and we enjoyed listening to him telling us about where he has been since. This is what he had to say . . .
 
“After leaving Milford and moving to Cardiff in the summer of 2005 I carried on playing for Herbrandston, making the journey home with Matthew Price for the whole 2005/6 season.
I was working there as a bricklayer and also playing football for the newly-formed Cardiff Sunday League side ‘Roath Park Galaxy’, which consisted of no fewer than nine ex-Herbie players. It was brilliant!
 
Bala bound – for work and football
 
In 2009 I moved to Altrincham with my girlfriend and worked as a builder in Bala (which was an hour and a half away). I commuted from Altrincham everyday and decided to join the Bala Town football team (my wife is from Bala and her uncle is club chairman!)
I enjoyed this massively and although I was only playing in the reserve team it was a different standard altogether and the first team were an established League of Wales team.
 
The reserve team consisted of all local lads whose first language was Welsh so as you can imagine the team talks where rather entertaining – but they welcomed me as one of their own and my Welsh improved dramatically!
We finished runners up to Airbus in my first season, which was very creditable in such a competitive league. In 2010, after a season and a half, I decided as I wasn't making enough of an impression to make the Bala first team it was time to move on to play first team football,  so I found that at Brymbo FC.

Brymbo were rock bottom of the Wrexham National Premier league, the third tier of Welsh Football so I thought maybe there was a chance I could make an impression there. I signed in January 2010 and went straight into the team at centre half, and we won three in a row and kept clean sheets.  We did enough in the last few games to stay up after being 12 points adrift in January.
 
I signed for the following season and was made club captain - Brymbo is regarded as one of the best North Walian amateur sides so I was proud of this. They too had taken me in and made me feel so welcome – as we finished mid-table and had two quarter finals in the league cup and new challenge cup.



Worrying times
 
Last pre-season I was having heart palpitations and dizziness so I went to get it checked out with my cardiologist. They were not happy about the tests so I had to undergo more tests: seven-day ECG's, stress tests and ultra sound, and during this time I had the managers of Brymbo, Llangollen Town and Gresford Athletic, all in the Welsh National premier league, on the phone wanting me to sign!
 
Great news and a fresh start
 
In September 2012 I had my results back and it was great news as they said I was okay to play again. Brymbo had a new manager and it was all change there so I decided on Gresford Athletic, which again is held in high regard in North Wales, with a great set up. My brother AJ Galdo, had also decided to sign, which meant for the first time since leaving Herbie we would be playing in the same team again.
 
Last season Gresford had a really strong finish to the season and finished up joint third. We were a couple of points off second place, which would have been enough to secure promotion to the Cymru Alliance (the second tier north). I have re signed for this season and preparation is very good and we are aiming for promotion and a run in the Welsh Cup.
 
And finally . . .
 
I am married to Stacy and we have bought a house in Broughton, Chester. I am currently studying Neebosh health and safety in construction and we are proud of our new daughter Tilly, who is a proper Galdo, dark and intelligent - Wait did I say intelligent? Haha! I still miss Pembrokeshire but proud of what I have achieved and where my oath has taken me.



One thing is for sure, I will always be a Milford boy and have Herbie FC running through me - it is in the blood!  Hello to my old pals and family in Herbrandston and Milford Haven - and to all of you I say –‘muchas gracia’!
